Jeff Dotseth is Wrong for Minnesota

In September 2024, the Star Tribune reported that Jeff Dotseth, Minnesota Republican State Representative from Kettle River who represents Northern Minnesota, including Sturgeon Lake, Cloquet, and Moose Lake, was charged with domestic assault after more than a decade of abusing his now ex-wife, stepson, and daughter.

Court documents reveal that Dotseth’s family was repeatedly subjected to his violence and physical abuse over many years.

The Duluth News Tribune reported that Dotseth’s pattern of abuse dated back to 1994. In a sworn affidavit, Dotseth was described as being violent, and mentally and emotionally abusive. Court documents describe how Jeff Dotseth’s now ex-wife had been choked, punched, kicked, slapped, pinned, and smothered by Dotseth. When Dotseth’s ex-wife’s son, who was a child at the time, tried to intervene on multiple occasions, he was also hurt by Dotseth, including being “thrown, hit with things, and kicked…”

There’s no excuse for Jeff Dotseth’s behavior and no place for it in public service or the Minnesota Legislature.
