Build a Better Minnesota Legislature

Democrats are Protecting Access to Abortion Care

As president, Donald Trump overturned Roe v. Wade, which eliminated Americans’ constitutional right to abortion, established over 50 years ago, and opened the door for Republicans in states across the country to ban and criminalize access to abortion care.

Since then, twenty states have enacted near-total or total abortion bans, including Minnesota’s neighbors in Iowa, North Dakota, and South Dakota. And during the 2023-2024 Minnesota legislative session, Minnesota Republicans even introduced an abortion ban and five abortion restriction bills.

Thankfully, Minnesota Democrats like Dan Wolgamott fought to protect abortion rights, are working to expand access to reproductive health care, and have blocked Minnesota Republicans’ attempts to ban abortion.

In 2023, Minnesota Democrats passed the Protect Reproductive Options (PRO) Act. The PRO Act established the fundamental right for every Minnesotan to make decisions about their reproductive health care, including the right to abortion, contraception, fertility treatment, and to carry a pregnancy to term.

Democrats also passed the Reproductive Freedom Defense Act to ensure that patients traveling to Minnesota for abortion care and their providers are protected from legal attacks and criminal penalties from other states that have banned abortion.

Democrats are Investing in Public Education

Minnesota Democrats like Dan Wolgamott are working to invest in public schools and deliver meaningful programs like universal school meals for Minnesota students and families.

Minnesota Democrats and Dan Wolgamott passed a historic investment in public schools to provide more mental health support for students, reduce class sizes, and recruit and retain teachers.

Democrats passed a law in Minnesota to provide all students with free school lunch and breakfast. Providing universal school meals to all students invests in the health and well-being of our children, improves school performance and increases attendance, saves families thousands of dollars a year, and ensures that no student goes hungry for any reason.

And for Minnesota families with a household income under $80,000 per year, Minnesota Democrats passed a law that allows students to attend Minnesota colleges and universities for free. This will help to reduce the financial barriers that Minnesotans face in obtaining a higher education, fight declining college enrollment, and decrease Minnesota’s labor shortage.

Democrats are Holding Corporations Accountable

While large corporations raise prices in order to post record profits, many working Minnesotans struggle to pay their bills and feed their families.

That’s why Minnesota Democrats like Dan Wolgamott are fighting to hold corporations accountable for raising prices and make them pay their fair share.

Minnesota Democrats and Dan Wolgamott passed a new law to protect Minnesotans from hidden, burdensome, and excessive junk fees.

Democrats also passed a bill to prevent big pharmaceutical companies from price gouging the cost of prescription drugs that Minnesotans rely on.

And Democrats fought back against Big Pharma to pass a law that caps co-pays for life-necessary medications and medical supplies like insulin, asthma inhalers, and EpiPens.

To build a better Minnesota for everyone, we need to build a better Minnesota Legislature by electing Democrats who will fight for our families, protect our freedoms, and ensure that the wealthy and corporations pay their fair share.
